We are happy to present Amoeba Productions’ Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Belongingness Statement and Goals.
STATEMENT
Amoeba Productions is committed to creating intentional spaces that honor the autonomy, vision, and identity of all experiences held by our collaborators and audience members. This requires our constant dedication to transparency, education, and action to grow our understanding of how we can serve the communities we make art with, and within.
First, we must confront that Amoeba Productions is a product of the oppressive systems that this industry and country are born from. The white supremacist capitalist patriarchy puts each of us in places of privilege. Only by welcoming conflict as an opportunity to place lived experience over the urgency for profit, can we build a liberated company.
In striving to move beyond statements and instead enact tangible actions that discard the practices of ableist white supremacy, the company has set the following goals. Our intention is to weave accessibility, agency, and accountability into every function of Amoeba Productions.
GOALS
Accessibility
- Amoeba performances will be in wheelchair accessible spaces.
- Amoeba will actively seek resources to make audio descriptions and ASL interpretation available for every project by 2026.
- All Amoeba performances will create a comfortable viewing environment for all by always allowing re-entrance, embracing vocal audiences, and actively seeking feedback from our audience members.
- Ticket prices to Amoeba performances will be on a sliding scale, prioritizing accessible attendance for community members.
Community Engagement
- Each major Amoeba project will engage externally in a charitable endeavor within and for the community the project is housed.
- Amoeba will seek continued education on its role in liberating performing arts spaces by at least one board member attending a nonprofit or charity event every trimester and sharing the experience at board meetings and including in the trimester update.
- Amoeba will offer its community of early career artists accessible educational, professional development, and collaborative opportunities.
Hiring and Casting
- Amoeba will always post hiring and creative opportunities in public spaces that do not require application fees.
- Amoeba will post hiring or artistic opportunities in multiple locations that engage with different communities.
- At least 50% of all Amoeba’s collaborators will represent diverse communities encompassing race, gender identity, sexual orientation, and disability.
- All hiring and casting application processes will center qualitative over quantitative qualifications.
- All hiring and casting application processes will offer accommodations based on individual needs.
- No less than 50% of programming will be written or created by artists from historically underrepresented groups.
- Amoeba will actively seek resources to be able to compensate all collaborators.
- When hiring or offering an opportunity, Amoeba will always include a written expectation of compensation, labor, time, and anything else related to their involvement with the company that will be agreed upon by the collaborator before their role begins.
Transparency & Accountability
By June 2025:
- Amoeba bylaws, Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Belongingness (EDIB) goals and reports, Board Member contact information, and monthly financial records are available on the website.
- Amoeba productions will create a triannual update on its EDIB goals and make it available on the Amoeba website. This report will continue Amoeba’s education on its own goals and the needs of its community.
- Amoeba will always have a feedback form available on its website. The contents of this feedback and the discussion that follows it will be available in the triannual EDIB update.
