What Amoeba productions is all about

Amoeba Productions was created in a tiny Bushwick living room three years ago because we wanted to create space for art and artists in development. With an average ticket price of one hundred and thirteen dollars and an income of 1.5 billion dollars, Broadway and other large theaters are dominating the performing arts industry in New York. Early career artists are forced to navigate the maze of monetary fire walls. Our quest is to gather new and bold voices together to unleash the projects that emerging artists have been itching to build.

With an average ticket price of 113.78 USD and a gross income of 1.5 billion, according to a Statista Research Development in February of this year, Broadway and other large established theaters dominate the live-performance industry in New York. Early career artists are forced to scuffle for the remaining resources, and many are denied the opportunity to be represented on stage. The suppression of new and diverse voices is made worse by the cyclic pattern of the inner circle of mega-theatres in New York. The many barriers that have been built between professional careers and emerging artists include the expectation of free manual labor, job listing sites that require monetary payment to access opportunities, and necessitating being in specific spaces to connect with theatre professionals that are also surrounded by a monetary fire wall. This systematic exclusion is reflected by the National Endowment for the Arts reporting that in 2016 that the average age of a working artist is 41 and that the 548,944 people of color in the theatre industry measures to less than half of the 1,678,940 white people.
